September 12, 2014 – Mid-Missouri Regional Planning Commission (Mid-MO RPC) staff has been working alongside several regional transportation stakeholders over the past 18 months as part of a Missouri Developmental Disabilities Council (MODDC) planning grant to increase regional coordination. The mission of the MODDC planning grant is to: “Sustain a regional partnership for better community access through transportation coordination and mobility management”.
The first year of the planning effort, Phase I, focused on stakeholder outreach, planning, and development of the MODDC/Mid-MO RPC Transportation Coordination Implementation Strategy. The Mid-Missouri Transportation Coordination Council (MMTCC) was formed to assist in developing the strategy. The MMTCC provides a forum for transportation providers and human service providers to discuss shared challenges and work to coordinate transportation activities in the region. The MMTCC has also launched a website and facebook page to provide a way for agencies and staff to find contact info, advertise regional projects, and archive the planning effort. With the tools and partnerships created through the planning phase, it is the goal of Mid-MO RPC to apply for Phase II funding.
Phase II will consist of another grant application to the MODDC to implement an identified project. Because the MODDC will be providing a 20% match for a future project, progress is dependent on transit funding from the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). Mid-MO RPC has been in discussions with MoDOT about the creation of an implementation project and it is expected that funding guidelines and applications will be available in Fall 2014.
The completed MODDC/Mid-MO RPC Transportation Coordination Implementation Strategy is available here. The MMTCC holds meetings on a semi-monthly basis. Please check the MMTCC web site (www.midmotcc.org) for information about our upcoming October 7th meeting. We encourage any interested parties to participate.
